Alaska's Energy Landscape: Past, Present, and Future

Every time we flip a switch, Alaska’s energy story shapes our communities, our landscapes, and our wallets.This double-header speaker event brings together two perspectives on Alaska’s energy, from how and why decisions were made to electrify the railbelt to innovations for the future. To paint this energy picture, we are excited to host two energy experts for an illuminating evening.

The evening opens with a 30-minute talk by Doug Johnson, Director of Development for ORPC Alaska, who will discuss emerging renewable energy technologies in Alaska.

The second half of the program features Dr. Philip Wight, Associate Professor of History and Arctic & Northern Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, shining a light on the history of electrification in Alaska’s Railbelt.
