MEA Board of Directors Election
Each Spring the Matanuska Electric Association holds Board of Director Elections. Terms for board members are 3 years and board members can only serve for 3 terms before they are required to leave the board for a minimum of 2 years before running again. Applications for the board happen in January and voting begins in April, concluding at the MEA Annual Member Meeting which is typically hosted in Palmer.
MEA members can determine which district they are in by using our district map search tool at this link. They can also check your monthly billing statement to see which district you are in or contact Member Services at 907-761-9300.

2026 SRC Endorsed Candidates
In 2026 there are 2 seats up for election: the Eagle River District and an At-Large Director Seat. The Susitna River Coalition has made endorsements for a candidate in each race.

Connie Fredenberg
At-Large Director Seat: Entire MEA Service Territory
If you haven’t heard the news, MEA fuel costs
are going up 50% by 2028.
As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t just another hole in our pockets. It’s a betrayal of all our potential for
a great local energy economy here.
I’m Connie Fredenberg and my love for Palmer started as the farm manager at our very own Musk Ox Farm 30 years ago. I love working at the farm so much that I built a home right next door and serve today as the Vice President.
But I’ve also worked 21 years with Alaska’s independent community-owned electric utilities,
teaching utility management, installing electric meters, and crafting business models in some of the toughest parts of our state.
To see runaway costs of this size at my home MEA hitting my kids’ livelihoods is too much for this mother to take. We no longer have time for inaction at MEA. We need real decisions and investments now.
Daniel Jensen
Eagle River Seat: Eagle River, Chugiak, Eklutna
I'm Daniel Jensen and, when I'm not being the best ski dad I can, I'm an energy nerd. Actually, I'm an energy accounting nerd.
I'm a Certified Professional Account invested in over 1GW of energy projects for our Cook Inlet Native Development Corporation. That's enough energy for 600,000+ Alaskan homes. My job is to make sure the business models, financing, and performance of all these energy projects are healthy.
We've recently gotten a wakeup call at MEA that things might not be healthy here. MEA fuel costs will now rise 50.6% by 2028. Current plans are to import fuels from foreign markets to meet Alaska’s energy demand.
Our MEA families and our wallets deserve better. I'm asking for your vote this April to be our advocate on the board for sensible diversification that gets our head out of the sand and gets our cheaper, cleaner local energy options to work.
